What’s in a name?

First, the 2022 Land Rover Discovery Sport is not a sportier version of the 2022 Land Rover Discovery, as the name suggests. The Discovery Sport is a versatile compact SUV, while the Discover is the most versatile full-size seven-seater family SUV. This shows in their pricing too. The 2022 Land Rover Discovery Sport MSRP starts at $42,375, while the larger 2022 Discovery has a starting price tag of $53,900.

The 2022 Land Rover Discovery and 2022 Land Rover Discovery Sport come with a premium and purposeful design. However, their seating and interior cargo space differ. While the Discovery Sport compact SUV is a five-seater, it offers up to seven seats in a 5+2 configuration (five seats and two seats in the third row for kids). On the other hand, the Discovery is a proper seven-seater that offers ample seating for seven adults with its seven full-size seats. In terms of cargo space, the Discovery Sport has 6.8 cu-ft of interior cargo space in its 5+2 seating configuration and maximum cargo space of 60 cu.-ft with all its five rear seats folded. The Discovery offers 9.1 cu.-ft with seven seats up and 74.3 cu.-ft with all five rear seats folded.

Powertrains

Apart from the seating and cargo space, the 2022 Land Rover Discovery and 2022 Land Rover Discovery Sport come with different powertrains. All trims of the 2022 Discovery Sport and the 2022 Discover Sport R-Dynamic, namely S and SE, are powered by a standard 2.0L P250 inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine that generates 246 horsepower 269 lb.-ft of torque. On the other hand, the 2022 Land Rover Discovery offers two engine options depending on whether you choose the regular Discovery or the Discovery R-Dynamic. The 2022 Discovery is offered in a single S trim level powered by a 2.0L P300 i4 gasoline that produces 296 horses and 295 lb.-ft of torque. With the Discovery R-Dynamic, you have the option of getting the 2022 Discovery R-Dynamic S with either the 296-hp 2.0L P300 i4 engine or a mild-hybrid 3.0L P360 inline 6-cylinder engine that cranks out an incredible 355 hp and 368 lb.-ft of torque. The latter engine is the only option available for the top-end Discovery R-Dynamic HSE trim.
